  미디어가 점차 라디오에서 비디오로 전환되려는 새로 꿈틀하는 번데기의 단계가 바로 이 80년대 초일 것이다. 신디사이저의 등장으로 차가운 음색의 음악들이 많이 만들어졌고, 그 와중에서 오히려 따뜻한 멜로디와 가사로 그 당시 가수들은 사람들을 매혹했다. 가장 대표적인 가수가 ABBA라고 나는 생각한다. 지금도 많은 40대 어른들에게 사랑을 받고 있으니까 말이다.

  이 곡을 들으면 나는 꾸미기 좋아하는 하얀 피부의 소녀를 떠올린다. 그리고 80년대의 허영 섞인 화려함이 떠오른다. 무대의 화려한 조명, 그리고 공연 후 가수들의 차가운 뒷모습이 떠오른다. 가끔씩 맘마미아 OST를 꺼내 듣곤 하는데, 그 때마다 Prince of Wales Theatre에서의 감동이 밀려온다.(지난 2월 영국에서 맘마미아 뮤지컬을 봤다) 이 곡은 OST 속에 들어있는 트랙으로 주인공 Sophie와 Harry(Sophie의 진짜 아버지로 추정되는 3명 중 한 명)가 같이 불렀다.

  네온싸인, 갖가지 색깔의 스포트라이트, 나이트클럽, 그리고 지금의 눈으로 보았을 때의 약간의 촌스러움, 그러나 그 속에서 볼 수 있는 사람들의 풍요로운 모습.. 이 모든 것들이 ABBA의 노래에 녹아있는 듯하다.
